As with all natural stone products, there will be natural variations in the shade, tone and markings of the material. This may include speckles, fossils, and quartz lines. The buyer must accept that this is part of the character of the stone.

The fireplace includes stonework only (surround, slips and hearth). Any fire appliances and ornaments shown are not included. The fire opening is the standard 16 inches (400mm) wide by 22 inches (550mm) high. The rear panel comes in three separate pieces.

The fireplace is suitable for gas or electric fires. If you wish to use solid fuel, the hearth must be cut into three pieces; this is the responsibility of the buyer. You should have the fireplace installed by a competent individual, and should any gas appliances require installation, this must be performed by a registered CORGI fitter.

We recommend that your Stone hearth be bedded level using white cement or lime mortar; we recommend against the use of Portland cement as it may cause shadows to appear on the hearth surface.

Side slips and legs should be fixed to walls with tile adhesive. The tops of the legs should also be drilled to offer a mechanical fixing to the wall, before being covered by the headpiece. The headpiece should also be fixed to the wall with tile adhesive, and lime mortar applied to the joints. We recommend fixing mirror plates to rear of the headpiece to offer a sound mechanical support. If desired, the mirror plates can be plastered over to conceal them from view.

Any small chips in the fireplace resulting from the installation can usually be removed by careful rubbing with wet and dry paper. We suggest starting with a 120 grade paper, then 180, and finishing with 360 grade. Once installed, the fireplace should be cleaned (either with soap and water, or rubbed with a 360 grade wet and dry paper, used dry), and then grouted with lime mortar. Finally, the surround should be sealed with a proprietary sealant such as Thompson's Water Seal (R) or Lithofin Stain Stop (R).
